FIVE WAYS PRIDE IS HIDING IN YOUR LIFE and YOU DON'T REALIZE IT
===

[00:00:00] What if I told you pride may be influencing your life in ways you don't even recognize? That was me. I was puffed up with pride, but had no idea. How could I know I'm kind, giving, loving person? How could I be struggling with pride? Before I get into it, my name is Erica. Welcome to Where Is Your Voice podcast.

Today's topic is Five ways. Pride is hiding in your life and you don't realize it. So what is pride? Pride is having arrogance and having a higher view of yourself compared to others. It is self worship. It's also the reason the enemy was kicked out of heaven, how Eve was tempted in the garden, and how Satan tempted Jesus on the mountain with the pride of life.[00:01:00]

So with pride being used to tempt Jesus, Eve falling prey to it, Satan being kicked out of heaven because of his pride. Imagine how it could be running rampant in your own life. The way you speak, think, and view others or yourself could be because of your pridefulness sign. Number one, pride could be hiding in your life is that you are easily offended.

For example, you might go out to eat at a restaurant. The food is taking longer than expected to come out. You might assume a few reasons this may happen, which leads to the offense because you notice when your food is taking a long time or an issue happens when you want to know why.

Because you wanna be sure you have the right to be offended, but you truly never [00:02:00] have the right to be offended. You never have the right to be offended because offense is a form of pride, because to be offended means to be resentful, annoyed, or perceived insult

if you were to bring any issue of offense to God, he will say, give them grace, because I'm sure you have. Offended, annoyed, gave a perceived insult to someone. Many times as well. So to be offended is to view yourself as higher than someone else. Proverbs chapter 19, verse 11 says, A person wisdom yields patience.

It is to one's glory to overlook an offense. So ask God to give you a soft heart. Instead of a defensive one and how to see people in the way he sees them with grace sign [00:03:00] number two, you might have pride hiding in your life is you boast about your accomplishments. Without giving God any glory. You see, I see this a lot on social media.

People might post and say, I just got a job. I just bought a house. I lost weight. I just healed and prophesized X amount of people. But they share all of these accomplishments, which are great accomplishments that I'm not knocking, but they don't give God. Any glory for any of those things as if they were able to achieve them without God.

In First Corinthians chapter one, verse 26 through 31, it reads for consider your calling Brothers. Not many of you are wise according to wordly standards. Not many were powerful. Not many were noble. Birth, but [00:04:00] chose what is foolish in this world to shame the wise? God chose what is weak in this world to shame the strong God, chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not to bring to.

Nothing thinks that are so that no human might boast in the presence of God. And because of him, you are in Christ Jesus who became to us. Wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that as it is written, let the one who boast, boast in the Lord. So everything we have comes from God.

Everything we obtain comes from God. So this is why we boast in the Lord and we give him glory, not ourselves. And to boast about yourself is to say that you think you know more our did more for yourself than God does. And that is a prideful way of thanking. In Daniel chapter four, verse [00:05:00] 28 through 34, it reads all, all this time upon King Nepo.

At the end of the 12 months, he was walking on the roof of his royal palace of Babylon, and the king answered and said, it's not the great Babylon, which I built, by the way, mighty power as the royal residence, and for the glory of my majesty, while the words were still in the king's mouth. Then a fail, a voice from heaven.

King Nepo to you. It is spoken. The kingdom has departed from you and you shall be driven from among men, and your dwelling should be with the beast of the field and you shouldn't be made to eat grass like an ox. And seven periods of time shall pass over. You until you know that the most high rules from the kingdom of men and gives it to him, whom will immediately, the word was fulfilled against nepo.

He was driven from among men and ate grass like [00:06:00] an ox, and his body was wet with the do of heaven to his hair grew as long as egos, feathers, and his nails were like birds and claws. At the end of the days, Nebu lifted his eyes to heaven and my reason returned to me and I blessed the most high and praise and honored him who lives forever.

For his dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom endures from generation to generation. So as you see, king Nebu was humbled because he grew prideful thinking that Babylon was because of him. He thought that he established the city and that he established such a mighty kingdom, and God humbled him and let him know that everything that King Nebu had is because of him.

At the end of the seven years, king Nebu raced up and gave God. Thanks for everything he has and realize that [00:07:00] he is the God of the most high. So just give Jesus thanks for everything in your life in all ways that you can. And Luke chapter 16, verse 10, it says, whoever can be trusted with very little, can be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will be dishonest with much.

So Jesus is watching you. And how you steward the things he provides for you. So are you trying to just give yourself glory when you get the things that God gives you? Or are you willing to give God the glory right back? Okay, so sign number three that you may have hidden pride in your life is unwilling to hold yourself accountable.

This could be for past mistakes and actions that you caused. How you treat talk to people. You seem to find an excuse for everything you do wrong. You can't let go of anything [00:08:00] spoken bad about you. You may have an addiction to many things, but you just say that's how you are. You excuse your behavior. You might be mean to people without cause.

Poor driving skills, thinking every other driver is the problem. Forgetting there is 8 billion people in this world, so you ride people's bumper, cut people off in traffic. You have sins that you know you're committing, but you're not repenting for them thinking you are okay. Your. Sin. You're okay with not trying to grow into a better person and you think you're perfectly fine where you are and who you are.

You can find an issue with everyone else and you don't have many issues as well. The list goes on for people who lack accountability, and they're probably listening to this now, not even realizing that I'm talking about them. But one major sign is you don't think you need to be better or you're okay with [00:09:00] not being better, and this is a sign that you have hidden pride in your life.

, in First Samuel chapter 15, verse 24 through 30, it reads, Saul said to Samuel, I have sinned. For I have transgressed, the commandment of the Lord and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice. Now therefore, please pardon my sin and return with me that I may bow before the Lord and Samuel said to Saul, I will not return with you.

For you have rejected the word of the Lord. And the Lord has rejected you from being king over Israel. As Samuel turn to go away, saw. Sees the skirt of the robe and it tore. And Samuel said to him, the Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this day and has given it to a neighbor of yours who was better than you, and also the glory of Israel will not lie or have regret for he is not a man that he should have [00:10:00] regret.

Then he said, I have sinned yet. Honor me now before the elders. Of my people and before Israel and return with me that I may bow before the Lord your God. So as you heard, SA didn't care that he sinned. He only cared to be honored. He did not hold himself accountable for his actions, but still wanted honor among the.

People. So people who don't hold themselves accountable care more about how they are perceived among people because they wanna continue to exalt themselves. And holding themselves accountable would make them feel less than, which shows how prideful they truly are. Breaking free. From this, we'll take a hard posture of repentance Sign number four, you might have hidden pride in your life is you think you can do everything [00:11:00] yourself or feel like nobody can do it as good as you. You're probably controlling. Don't like group projects. Judgmental, overly critical to others. A neat freak over planner. Budget, everything. Tight schedule.

People might say that you have a type A personality. The thought of asking someone to do. Anything gives you anxiety. You feel like most people will let you down. You're a workaholic too, and I bet you're a person who also is there for everyone else. Not saying no. Even when you have a tight schedule, you will try to accommodate them if you can.

These are signs. Of hidden pride in your life because nobody can do everything and anything, especially alone. To think that only you can do those things is to say that you are better than everyone. Even [00:12:00] God in First Corinthians chapter. 12 verse nine it says, but he said to me, my grace is sufficient to you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.

Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me for the sake of Christ, then I am content with my weaknesses. Insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. So as you see, the Bible encourages us to embrace our weaknesses.

. The power of the Lord can be made strong within us, but if we think we can do everything and we try to control everything, this is saying that we think we know more than God, and that is prideful. Side number five, you might have a hidden pride is you're suffering from [00:13:00] unforgiveness.

And I do understand that some people do. Have some terrible, devastating things done to them, and the world teaches us to want revenge. Don't forgive them because what they did doesn't deserve it. Let's go to Luke chapter 23, verse 26 through 46. As they led him away, they seized one Simon of Serene who was coming in from the country and laid on him from the cross to carry it behind Jesus, and they followed him in great multitude of the people and the women who were mourning and laing for him.

But turning to them, Jesus said. Daughters of Jerusalem. Do not we for me, but we for yourselves and for your children. For behold. The days are coming when they will say, blessed are the barren and the wounds that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed. [00:14:00] When they will begin to say to the mountains, fall on us and onto the heels.

Cover us for if they, if for. For if they do these things, when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry? Two others who were criminals were led away to be put to death with him, and when they came to the place that it's called the Skull, they were crucified. Him and the criminals wanted his right and wanted his left.

And Jesus said, father, forgive them for they know now what they do, and they cast lots to divide his garments. And the people stood by watching, but the ruler sculpted him saying, he saved others. Let him save hisself if he is the Christ of God, his chosen one. Soldiers also mocked him coming up and offering him sour wine and saying, if you are the King of Jews, save yourself.

There was also an inscription over him. This is the king of the Jews, [00:15:00] one of the criminals who were hanging railed at him saying. Are you not the Christ save yourself and us. But the other rebuked him saying, do not fear God since you are under the same sentence on condemnation. And we indeed justly for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds.

But this man has done nothing wrong. And he said, Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom. And he said to him, truly, I say to you today, will. Be with me in paradise, and it was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour while the sunlight fell and the curtain of the temple was torn into two.

Then Jesus called out with a loud voice. Said Father, into your hands, I commit my spirit. And having said this, he breathed his last breath. So as you heard, Jesus was [00:16:00] forgiving all the way up into his last breath before he came back again and he still forgiving. So there is nothing that anyone has done to you that is worse.

Than what they did to Jesus. And you might say, well, I'm not Jesus, but guess what? Jesus is in you and that spirit is calling you to forgiveness and to ignore that is prideful because you are. Stating that you know more than Jesus. How can you know more than Jesus who has forgiven you countless times because he is rich in mercy.

And Matthew chapter 18, verse 21 through 35, then Peter came up and said, Lord, how often will my brother sin against me? And I forgive him as many as 70 times. Jesus said to him. I do not [00:17:00] say to you 70 times, but 77 times. Therefore, the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king wish to settle accounts with his servant when he began to.

Settle. One was brought to him who owed him 10,000 talents, and since he could not pay, his master, ordered him to be sold with his wife and children and all that he had and payment to be made, so the servant fell on his needs. Imploring him, have patient with me and I will pay you everything. And out of pity for him, the master of that servant released him and forgave him the debt.

But when the same servant went out, he found his fellow servants who owed him hundred Ari and seizing him, he began to choke him saying. Pay what you owe. So his fellow servant fell down and pleaded with him, have patient with [00:18:00] me and I will pay you. He refused and he put him in prison until he should pay the debt.

When his fellow servant saw what had taken place, they were greatly distressed and they went and reported to their master all that had taken place. Then his master. Summon and said to him, you wicked servant. I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me and should not you have mercy on your fellow servant as I have mercy on you and in anger.

His master delivered him to the jailers until he should pay all his debt. So also, my Heavenly Father will do every one of you if you do not forgive your brother from your heart. So as you hear from Jesus, forgiveness is a must. And if you feel like you don't have to do it, that is [00:19:00] exposing hidden pride in your heart because you think this does not apply to you as if you never hurt anyone before because maybe you think you're a God, I have to say is a lot of times you're not gonna truly. Feel like forgiving. And so what I do, as soon as I start thinking negative about someone, our past hurts that people have caused me, I say, thank you for reminding me about that. I need to forgive them for that, and then I forgive them.

Then I pray for them because that softens my heart for them. Then I also take it to God and let God know if I'm having an issue with certain people so that he can help my heart because I know. He wants to, I know he wants me to. ~. You know I, ~you need Jesus to be able to forgive.

The Holy [00:20:00] Spirit is also what helps you to do these things. So you have to tap into him and let him know so he can aid you in your freedom. So those were all my signs for the day, and before I go, I will pray us out and I hope. This encouraged you, and I know that freedom is coming, but it's also great to expose those areas that could be holding us back from living that abundant life that Jesus wants us to have because he wants us to delight in him and he delights in us.

And these issues can cause burdens in our voice, mind, and choices we make. So before I go, I'm gonna go ahead and pray us out. All right. Lord, we come to you in the name of Jesus, humbly, gratefully, thanking you, Lord, for everything that you do for ~us, God. And we know how hard it can be in this world on sometimes being offended or thinking that we can just.~

~Do everything or trying to relinquish the control and those things can build up pridefulness in ~us. God. So we wanna repent for that now, Lord. And even since that, we [00:21:00] are not aware that we're doing Lord, so we can start fresh, Lord. 'cause we wanna live life. Abundantly, Lord. So create in us God, a new heart Lord, and break the things away from us that do not align with your purpose and your will God.

In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
